We woke up to an overcast morning! The weather stated there was a 30% chance of rain. The night before we were warned that there was a storm warning, but it had come and passed by the time we were up! We figured what a great morning to head over to the farmers market. It wouldn’t be so hot!!
Little did we know that the 30% went to absolute certainty for a complete 40 minute downpour! We rode from bridge to bridge hiding under them until the rain would lighten up and then bike as fast as we could to the next bridge to hide under. But the time we reached down town, we ran out of bridges and places to hide under… and it was straight pouring rain! We were absolutely soaked from head to toe! The boys, Blake and I were smiling from ear to ear, just laughing about the scenario we were in. Raylee just kept repeating over “I am so wet mama, so wet mama! Do you know it’s raining?!” We found a group full of trees by the capitol building we attempted to stay dry under. However, we were just getting drenched. It helped a little. We ended up leaving our bikes and running straight to a bus stop that had covered shelter. We waited out the storm, laughing at how ridiculous we all looked! The cars that were at the stop light looking over at us, like we were just crazy. I mean we literally were living life! The sun started to come out, the rain lightened up. I googled a coffee shop/cafe near by so that we could be completley out of the rain for a little bit. As we found it literally smack dab in the downtown scene, we were deciding what we were going to do with the bikes. There were no where to park the bikes. As we decided to stack them up against the trashbin, one of the employees came out and told us to bring them in and to come in! I think they felt bad for us. Seeing us literally soaking wet, drench with water from head to toe, saw our young kiddos and watched us confusingly trying to figure out our bike situation. As we walked in, they were kind, made no judgement and some of the customers struck a a quick conversation with us on how we must have got caught up with the storm! How’d he guess. Warmed up with some hot coffee and cocoa.
We made our way finally to the farmers market with 5 minutes to spare! No rain! It was closing down but we scored on some pickled veggies, some fresh veggies and jams! Kansas will forever be a memory we will never forget, as it was an absolute blast looking back. An adventure for the books. We all are still laughing on how crazy that downpour was! Of course the heat came blazing out and we were dry by the time we made it back home!
