3am came way to fast, but here we were. Blake was up, taking in his breakfast and drinking his cup of coffee. I started to wake the kids up. Most people cringe when they hear of the time they would have to wake up-let alone waking their kiddos up that early. However, our kiddos, when it comes to race days, or anything with this much excitement, these kids are up and ready. There is no delay, fuss or repetition on my end. They are up, dressed and ready to rock and roll with no complaints. The boys help packed their snacks and off we went to watch all the hardwork Blake deemed himself the past year. Blake wass ready to tackle this 70.3 race. For those that don’t know what 70.3 is, it is 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike course and finished with a half marathon, 13.1 miles for a full completion of 70.3 miles total done in less than 8 hours to state YOU ARE AN IRONMAN.
Despite the adversity with mother nature and digestive issues, he placed in the top 10%. He placed 17th in his age group of 88 people. 122nd /1,113 overall and finished time at 5:10:21. He placed 8th in his bike section, which is so great for his first 70.3. Training one’s endurance and heart rate for a 70.3 is much more intense than when training for a 140.6 (full distance). For his first 70.3; he rocked it and is putting down good numbers considering. We couldn’t be prouder.
