We decided to tour the town and found The Old Mill, in the downtown area of Little Rock. This was an 1880 re creation of a water powered grist mill. This was actually the opening scene of the classic movie “Gone With the Wind.” Lovely, unique and nice historic view to showcase to the kiddos what life was like, and how simplicity was totally different back in the 1880’s. After our Kearny Museum experience, they already had a slight idea of how modern day simplicity to how hard life truly was back then. We all enjoyed this little peaceful haven space. What a site to see. The beauty of it was something but explaining to the boys what this place once was and what it did was even better. They boys get so curious and confused how things were not what they are like now. The questions and the rebuttals are priceless. I should start keeping a quote book of the things they come up with. But again, another thing we like to explain to our children- Life isn’t always easy! But by figuring through the tuff times, with perseverance and working towards a goal, things can get better!
We took a little gander over to the Big Damn Bridge, which is elevated over 90ft over the Arkansas River. This bridge is actually the longest pedestrian/bicycle bridge in North America that has never been used for motorized vehicles or trains. This bridge connects up to 14 riverside trails! So you know, we had to check it out. We would have loved to have checked this out by riding along it, but Rhett was again under the weather, therefore, we were limited in what we were able to do physically.
Rhett had napped for a little bit, while the kids and I checked out the bridge and the history of that. Blake stayed behind in the car for Rhett to rest. However, when he awoke he was full of energy. Our night ended with a home-run (or a few) as our campsite was next door to the minor league field for the, The Arkansas Travelers, formally known as The Travs. How about front row seats behind the batter box to make the experience even more vibrant!? Who doesn’t love a little summer baseball game?! Across from where we were staying, we took the kids to a game that was being played. Two kiddos had their big screen debut. Raylee being on the screen for being tossed up high, like the infamous Lion King cub hold and both Raylee and Rhett sung, “Take me out to a ball game” with a group of other kiddos in attendance. It turned out to be a fun filled day and we learned a lot about the Little Rock area
For our first trip to Arkansas, we were able to check out a little but definitely want to make a trip back! There’s more to see for sure!
